This app has been developed for the students of Minerals and Energy Resources Engineering (MERE) subjects at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia. It is intended to provide an introduction into the longwall top coal caving (LTCC) mining method through an interactive simulation. A 360-degree view is provided of the cutting sequence at a hypothetical LTCC face. This allows the viewer to look around and observe the relationship between the supports, the armoured face conveyor (AFC) and the shearer as the system is in operation. A cross-section view is also provided where the viewer can step through the processes required for the supports to advance the longwall and recover overlying coal as the goaf is formed.
